Shelby Hagerdon

Shelby Hagerdon is a Creative Producer and Writer at Made By Things, an animation and motion design studio. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Mass Communication at Wayne State College, focusing on film, advertising, studio management and producing, media literacy, screenwriting, and the history of mass communication. 

 

Hagerdon has produced countless commercials and videos for some of the world's most influential brands, including Lightspeed Venture Partners and their portfolio companies, Provide Banking, and major universities (among others). Her work has been featured in streaming and online media, Times Square, and the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

 

She has also produced five features, which have won awards in directing, writing, and production. Of these, she has directed or co-directed three features and several shorts. She has lectured at film festivals and marketing events throughout the central United States, recently completing a series on indie feature filmmaking with the Iowa Motion Picture Association. 

 

 Her scripts have excelled in competitions, including the Austin Film Festival and Screencraft. Her background in abstract, surrealist writing and detailed production design in a live action world has made her a unique asset within animation, adding a fresh voice to both animated filmmaking and marketing. In her writing, Hagerdon is passionate about telling historical stories through new mediums, meaningfully engaging public understandings of the past. 

 

Hagerdon holds an MFA in Writing for Film and Television from Emerson College, one of the top American film schools.  Her thesis feature screenplay, Voila, Juliette!, presented a new exploration of the French New Wave, blending elements of film history and narrative storytelling. Her bachelors degrees are in Film Production and Theory and in History from Wayne State College.
